Ordering of predicative adjectives within the Noun Phrase varies cross linguistically in systematic ways (Cinque 2010). In Spanish adjectival ordering exhibits more flexibility than English. Spanish individual-level and stage-level adjectives revisited
As is known, Spanish (along with other Romance languages, such as Portuguese and Catalan) has two copular verbs, SER and ESTAR, to express what in other languages (e.g. French or English) is expressed via a single copula. Hence, in French we find Adán est intelligent and also Eva est malade, and in English Adán is intelligent and Eva is ill, in every case using the same copular verb (être in Fr...

This experimental study tests the predictions of the Interface Hypothesis (Sorace, 2011, 2012) using two constructions whose appropriateness depends on monitoring discourse information: Clitic Left Dislocation and Fronted Focus. Clitic Left Dislocation relates a dislocated and clitic-doubled object to an antecedent activated in previous discourse, while Fronted Focus does not relate the fronted...

Building on an elaborate domain ontology and knowledge about intercorrelations, comparison classes are dynamically created depending on the context in which adjectiva...

In other cases the denominal adjective expresses some vaguely defined notion of possession as in Russian Ivan-ovo (detstvo) ‘Ivan’s (chi...
متن کاملMonolingual and bilingual dictionary approaches to the enrichment of the Spanish WordNet with adjectives
We report on two different approaches to the incorporation of adjectives in Spanish WordNet based on automatic extraction techniques using EuroWordNet and machine-readable dictionaries. We show that a monolingual dictionary approach enables to exploit relations between different parts of speech and enrich the internal structure of the Spanish WordNet, while the methods based on bilingual dictio...
